Owners / Stylists

Elaine & Debbie

Elaine is a founder and co-owner of the salon and spa. In her 40+ years in the industry, she has seen styles change dramatically, and has always enjoyed keeping up with the latest trends. Elaine is in the salon Thursday through Saturday, and is one of our stylists who creates up-dos and special occasion styles. Debbie is also a founder and co-owner of the salon and spa. She specializes in all aspects of hair color, including corrective work, and has been a stylist for more than 20 years. Debbie accepts appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Stylists

April has been a stylist for over 20 years, and has been with us since we opened in 1993. She specializes in special-occasion styles and has helped an uncountable number of brides look beautiful on their wedding day. You may book an appointment with April on Tuesday from 12 to 9, on Thursday from 1 to 9, and every other Saturday.

Becky has been with us over 11 years. She enjoys creating beautiful, personalized hair color and is currently becoming a color educator. Becky is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 9, on Fridays from 12 to 5, and on Saturdays.

Vicki has been a stylist for over 21 years, and is also a very talented makeup artist. She has been with us for over eight years. She can create whatever look you desire, from a natural daytime application to dramatic evening glamour. Vicki is available for makeup and all hair services on Tuesdays from 2 to 9, Thursdays from 4 to 9, Fridays from 10 to 5, and every other Saturday.

Melinda became a stylist in 1983, and is a national educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems. She has been with us over six years. She is certified in long-hair styling, styling and finishing, and cutting men's, women's, and children's hair. Melinda accepts appointments on Tuesdays from 10 to 8, Wednesdays from 12 to 5, Thursdays from 10 to 8, Fridays from 9 to 5, and Saturdays from 9 to 3.

Paula V. was a stylist at Nino of Somerset for 19 years, and was with Barbara and Associates before she came to us in 2002. She has been a member of professional hair organizations, has had work published in hairstyling magazines and the Detroit News and Free Press, and has done hair and make up for Affiliate Modeling. Paula is available for all hair services, including special-occasion styles on Tuesdays from 1:30 to 4:30, Wednesdays from 9:30 to 4:30, Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30, Fridays from 9 to 2:30 and Saturdays.

Laura has over 24 years of experience as a stylist, and has been with us since 2000. She attended Haircolor University in New York City, and customizes each color to work with the cuts she designs. Laura accepts appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 to 9, Fridays from 11:30 to 4, and Saturdays.

Mary Jo has been a stylist for over 27 years, and spent 15 years at Hair Masters of Troy before coming to us in 2002. Her loyal following of clients appreciates the personal attention they receive, and have joined her at Portofino Salon and Spa. Mary Jo is available on Wednesdays from 12 to 7, and Thursdays from 2 to 9, and each week alternates working Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Andrea has been at Portofino since January of 2005. Before assisting Debbie, she received her license from David Pressley School of Cosmetology and worked for the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon & Spa. Andrea is currently pursuing two degrees in Business Administration and Salon Management. Her salon hours are Tuesday through Saturday during all salon hours.

Michael, formerly of D'Angelo International Salon of Troy, joined our team in March 2006 and brings to us over 25 years of experience, 17 of which he spent at Heidi's Salon. Michael, a former color educator, is committed to continually furthering his education so that he may deliver the best hair care services to his clients. Cutting and coloring hair is his life. He colors and highlights at the same time to avoid long hours spent in the salon. He loves to create and design the perfect style for each individual; if you're looking for a new look, give Michael a call. He is available Tuesday through Saturday.

Mary Ann, formerly of Michael's of Troy Barber & Beauty Salon in the Columbia Center, joined our team in June of 2007. She worked closely with Michael, the owner, most of her career until his passing, and received extensive barber training personally from him which enabled her to specialize in men's hair cutting. For over thirty years she has enjoyed creating styles for both women and men, and has attended many educational classes in men's & women's cutting, styling, coloring, and more. Mary Ann is available Tuesday and Thursday 11:30am to 8:00pm, Friday 12:00pm to 6:00pm, and every other Saturday.

Salon & Spa Coordinators

PJ, our full-time Salon & Spa Coordinator, has over 15 years of experience in the salon industry and has been with us since 2001. PJ exudes professionalism and enthusiasm continually; not only is she a true joy to have on our team, but her commitment to customer service is extraordinary. She schedules appointments, focuses on client's needs, manages and oversees the reception area, and so much more! PJ, who is also a licensed nail technician, is qualified in product knowledge and enjoys helping clients find just the right products to fit their needs.

Holly, our part-time Salon & Spa Coordinator, is with us Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and some Saturdays. Although Holly is part-time, she's been quite an asset to our team since she joined us in 2004. Our sweet, friendly Holly is a pleasure to have on our staff, and does an exceptional job scheduling appointments and assisting clients with their various needs.

Office Management / Administration

Sandy, our Office Manager / Administrator, has been a valuable asset to our team since 1997. She takes care of most of the behind-the-scenes things such as bookkeeping, payroll, designing & maintaining our web site, advertising & promotions, and so much more. You name it, she probably does it for us! Sandy keeps us organized and is always striving to make things better for everyone. Sandy graduated from Oakland University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and also holds an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Oakland Community College. She also writes and runs a successful web site & graphic design business from home.

Spa Staff

Felicia, a Skin Care Specialist who has committed herself to the skin care industry and anti-aging, joined Portofino Salon & Spa in 2004. She is a state-certified Esthetician and has attended many educational hands-on classes including Lydia Sarfati classes on Repechage products. Felicia will take care of all your skin care needs and will educate you on proper daily skin care.

You will never find someone more enthusiastic about massage than Paula. A self proclaimed "massage geek", she studied at Irene's Myomassology Institute in Southfield, Michigan and began her professional Practice in November 2002. Having set high standards for herself, she has been a member of Associated Massage and Bodywork Professionals (ABMP) since 2002 and earned her National Certification from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) in February 2005. Paula's desire to provide a wide range of therapeutic massage is evident in her resume which includes work at various spas and wellness centers, chiropractic and physical therapy clinics and a fitness center that caters to professional and semi-professional athletes. She is always happy to share the abundant knowledge she brings to the table and honored to serve the highest possible good of her clientele.
